The livelihood of an entertainer is full of different occurrences; from the glories to the disappointments, the hatred and the love, the celebration and the demotion, the winnings and the failures; they all come in their different time and seasons and even sometimes come in a juggle of minutes apart.
Starting his career with EME Music in 2010 with Holla at Your Boy, Wizkid has had his fair share of this eclecticism but what makes him the winner is the fact that he has lived through it all.
Wizkid has given us more than enough to say about him, from baby mamas drama to social issues-remember Headies?-and just of recent, his absence at his “benefactor’s wedding”.
Likewise we have enjoyed the hits, local and international achievements and the glam he has brought into the Nigerian music scene.
Coming out with a new blonde look and looking thinner also got people talking earlier in the year; asking if Wizkid was alright health wise and you know we Nigerians play too much.
Then came the Royal Albert Hall moment when he made history as one of the African acts that had a sold out show, alongside Sade Adu and Miriam Makeba.
Just when we haven’t really had our fill of that comes the MOBO Awards moment on the 29th of November at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.
Like for real, Wizkid going head-to-head with the likes of Cardi B, DJ Khaled, Drake, Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Migos, Solange Knowles, SZA and Travis Scott in the Best International Act category shows he has been able to make a name for himself against all odds in the industry in just a period of seven years, so much that he was compared to the Afro Beat legend himself, Fela.
Winning the MOBO Awards is another reinstatement of Wizkid having 2017 as his shinning and fulfilling year, and all he just has to do is bask in it and enjoy his graceful moment and success, and while at it, keep giving us more of good music.
